Echo is a 2 year old Maine Coon mix. We were told that her mama was very young (small) when in her 1st heat, she snuck out one night and came home pregnant. Mom remains on the side of the MC scale for females (10-18 lbs), and Echo is currently 11 lbs at 2 years old. She has the big ears (hence the name Echo) and the square snout of a MC, plus the huge mane and thick, multi-length coat that make MC's look so wild, as well as a very long, fluffy tail that she either stands on or wraps around her paws when she's cold, as MC's do!
When Echo was 5 months old, the cat that raised her suddenly turned on her and it got so bad she stopped coming inside the house. Even after we were able to rehome him, she still doesn't trust other cats, no matter how long she's known them to be friendly to her. For this reason, she should really be the only cat.
Echo is an indoor/outdoor kitty who loves to spend some time outdoors each day, then will lay in your lap to warm up when she comes inside. She would prefer living on at least a little bit of land so she can hunt, though she has learned not to hunt birds!
Echo prefers to interact when she plays inside. Because of her strength, she's a fierce opponent with a wand toy, but her favorite toy is a laser pointer. She pursues that thing like a lioness with hungry babies! And it's actually how we call her inside if she doesn't want to come in!
Echo has always been around small children and will gladly play with them. At night, she will even sleep with them, in her usual spot at the foot of the bed, watching the doorway intently for possible intruders.
Echo is very intelligent, treat-trained, and knows some tricks that she picked up super quickly as a kitten! She follows the house rules and listens to you when you talk to her. She especially loves being told she's a "Pretty Girl" and will do a little "pur-ow" and rub your hand affectionately or prance around to show off the rest of her pretty, fluffy self!
