How does it work? When searching for a kitten
to bring into your family you'll want to find the best match for your
lifestyle. Some breeds are more active and playful than others. Others
are great with kids and pets but some may not be. Living in an
apartment might require a less active cat that likes being inside most
of the time. It's best to research the breed using the browse
page where you can sort by traits such as activity and child
friendliness. You will want to thoroughly read profiles of breeds you
are interested in. After perusing the available kittens and you have
found your favorites, just contact the seller using the contact method
they have shown in the "Seller Info" section. From there, it's up to
you and the seller to make arrangements and purchase. When you transact with a seller, you are working with an independent person or entity separate from GoKitty. We do not offer any guarantees, nor do we pre-screen advertisers.
Breeders, rescues, shelters and cat owners looking to find a home for their cats or kittens may create a seller account
for free. Your seller info may be shown with your kitten listings so
make sure to be detailed with your account profile. In order to be
found, you must add a kitten profile. If you have a litter of kittens
it's best to make a profile for each kitten to portray their
personalities. If you are a breeder or cattery and would rather just list the entire litter in one
profile that is okay too. Breeders and Catteries may post any age of cat even if it's a
litter you are expecting soon. As a basic member with a free account your listings will be limited. Please read the section "Does it cost for sellers" below.
Who can join?
All types of cat lovers may join if they are interested in buying, selling
or adoption. We accept shelters, rescues, breeders and owners looking
to find a loving home for their cat. We want caring sellers that treat
their kittens and cats very well and abide by their local regulations.
If we find that a seller isn't up to our standards, they will likely be removed and banned contingent on a detailed
investigation.
Why do buyers need an account?
The biggest reason we can give you is our messaging center. Your messages are easily accessible and will be stored within your account. Though, your email address may be given to the seller so they may contact you directly. You account allows you to create a list of favorite kittens. You can follow your favorite breeds to receive email notifications of new kittens for sale. With a free account you may post a limited listing in the Cat Wanted Directory - only upgraded sellers will be able to send you messages and view more information with your free account. You have the option of upgrading your account. The details are found under "Does it cost for buyers?" below.
Does it cost for buyers?
You may come across sellers that have not upgraded to the premium membership. If a seller has a kitten or cat that you are
dying to meet, you may send a message and wait for them to upgrade their account or you may upgrade your account for $5.99 in order to have the ability to communicate with any seller for a month and show your full profile within the Cat Wanted Directory where any seller may contact you.
What are the seller types? Unfortunately, we are unable to validate the classifications sellers give themselves. However, if we do notice or are notified of an incorrect classification we will work with the seller to correct it. Below are the classifications sellers are able to select.
Catteries & Breeders breed and raise cats for show and/or sale and have extensive knowledge regarding the breed they specialize in. They may be members of a cat registry (CFA, TICA, FIFe, WCF or ANFI) and abide by club rules for breeding and care. Their cats & kittens may come with registration papers, health guarantee, and a certificate of good health from a vet. Because of the high standards sellers follow, registered cats for sale are typically more expensive. We have "cattery" and "breeder" separate for those with a preference, but also because catteries can be confused with a boarding facility.
Rescues & Shelters accept homeless cats and post cats for adoption. They will likely charge you small fee which helps continue their efforts. Donations help too! Their cats are typically adults that are up-to-date on vaccinations, seen by a vet and have been spayed or neutered. They should happily give you proof of vaccinations and vet care. Cat Lovers are parents of a precious cat that, due to unfortunate circumstances, needs to be re-homed. They may also be guardians that found a cat, nursed it to health, and are looking for forever parents. Though most of these cats will be free or very inexpensive, some cats were originally purchased from a breeder and are pedigreed so they will cost a bit more. Ask for registration papers and proof of vet care for the pedigreed cats.
Beware of the infamous Backyard Breeder! These breeders don't belong to a club, don't have papers or medical records for their kittens and only care to make money. They don't follow the rules for quality breeding or care. Be sure to ask many questions about the lineage of the cat you are interested in and learn as much as you can about how they care for their cats. If they appear to be inexperienced about breeding standards or quality care then it's best to not move forward with the seller. If you spot one on our site please let us know so we can remove them. Hobby Breeders are unlike backyard breeders because they will clearly know what it takes to breed healthy kittens and care for them.
Does it cost for sellers?
It's free to join and list kittens for sale or adoption. Free accounts will show basic information and may accept messages from interested buyers though the messages will be locked until the seller or the buyer upgrades. Upgraded memberships for sellers start at $9.99 per month. Upgraded listings are shown above free listings when possible, extra contact details - if available - are shown and descriptions are shown. With a paid account you will also be able to view complete listings of buyers that have posted in the Cat Wanted Directory and will be able to send them messages. Most importantly, all of your current messages are unlocked and any messages received during your upgrade will be unlocked for you to read and respond.
Why do some listings have ads?
In order to supplement the high cost of advertising and website maintenance we must have ads. Unfortunately, advertising doesn't bring in much income.
Where do you advertise?
We have
paid advertising, free organic traffic from Search Engine Optimization, affiliate traffic from online classifieds that accept our listings and social networking traffic. Our presence on social network sites (e.g.;
facebook, twitter) is growing as well. As of March 21st 2016 we have added an outgoing feed to oodle.com and will be feeding out to other classifieds as we find them. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee inclusion of outgoing feeds or search engines. We are
continually seeking new advertising avenues so you can spend more time
doing what you do best; caring for your kittens and cats.
Do you pre-screen users or advertisers or offer guarantees? No, we do not pre-screen users or advertisers and we do not offer guarantees. Though we reserve the right to investigate and remove any user or advertiser. If you are unsure about a specific seller and feel they might be a potential scammer, feel free to forward us their information (e.g.; link/url to a listing) along with why you feel they are a scammer and we will investigate. We strongly encourage you to read our buying tips thoroughly as well: How To Buy A Cat
Why don't you verify seller identities? There is a real cost to verifying the ID of a seller which they would need to pay. Verification is not good enough to guarantee a smooth transaction. We still would require buyers to read our buyer tips and protect themselves from fraud. In most situations, having us verify the seller is not needed since the purchase is offline. Though, buying online has risks which is why we encourage buyers to only use a payment method with buyer protection. Banking institutions with buyer protection likely have already verified the merchant as well so it's best to utilize their service as it's much safer than what we can provide. Following a few tips, you can protect yourself better than any identity verification we could implement. Lastly, there is no quality ethics filter known to man. We can't know what people will do and an ID verification won't magically filter out all unscrupulous sellers. Use your best judgment and also read our buyer tips
How do I unsubscribe from everything or delete my account? You may close your account at any time through your account in the 'Settings' tab.
Do you give refunds? We do not give refunds. We use the bulk of our funds to pay for costly advertising and maintenance to bring buyers and sellers to our website. We don't offer any guarantees because there are too many variables are outside of our control. Seller accounts have subscriptions and Buyer accounts do not have subscriptions. Subscriptions may be canceled any time either through the seller's account within the 'upgrade' tab (https://gokitty.com/seller/upgrade_profile) or, if paid with PayPal, through the seller's PayPal account using PayPal's instructions to cancel. Considering subscriptions, it is your responsibility to cancel when you are no longer needing the service. Cancelations must be made at least one (1) day prior to the subscription renewal date. Otherwise, recurring charges will continue to be billed regardless of the user's account activity.
How do I cancel my upgrade subscription? Seller accounts have a subscription service that may be canceled at any time through their account in the 'Upgrade' tab. Or via their PayPal account. If you have an active subscription - not through PayPal - a 'Cancel subscription' link will be displayed within your GoKitty account on the upgrade page.
