A challenge to own, a treasure to cherish. Bengals are as unique in personality as their coat is in patterns.
What is a Bengal Cat?
The Bengal is a hybrid breed of domestic cat. Bengals result from crossing a domestic feline with an Asian leopard cat (ALC), Prionailurus bengalensis bengalensis.
The Bengal cat has a desirable "wild" appearance with large spots, rosettes, and a light/white belly, and a body structure reminiscent of the ALC The Bengal possesses a gentle domestic cat temperament, provided it is separated by at least three generations from the original crossing between a domestic feline and an ALC The name "Bengal cat" was derived from the taxonomic name of the Asian leopard cat (P. b. bengalensis), and not from the more distantly related Bengal tiger.
Is a Bengal a good fit for me / My Family?
Most agree that Bengals are highly intelligent. With their "exotic" and "wild" appearance, they are really like having a sweet "lap-leopard" all of your own. They can also be very mischievous and boisterous.
They are active cats with high energy levels, always ready to play and entertain you! Some people leash train them, and teach them to fetch, and play other games. Bengals are unique in that many love and enjoy water. Frequent travelers may find this attention-seeking breed unsuitable as an only pet. If you do travel some you may want to think about adopting two!
Do Bengals make good pets?
Bengals make wonderful pets if you like an active, playful companion. Be sure to research your breeder and if possible meet the parents or ask details about the parent's personality. Our Bengal kings and queens are social with everyone and can't wait to entertain guests or cuddle in your lap for a few pets.
Are Bengals wild or aggressive?
Not at all. The Bengal’s temperament is purely domestic. Years of careful breeding have resulted in a cat with a beautiful and exotic look while being an even-tempered, gentle, affectionate, and playful family pet.
